Import Export Code (IEC) and an Authorized Dealer (AD) Code

To import or export goods in India, businesses need an Import Export Code (IEC) and an Authorized Dealer (AD) Code. The IEC is obtained from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) and the AD Code is obtained from an Authorized Dealer Bank.

  • Visit the DGFT website: Go to the official DGFT website.
  • Register: If you don’t have an account, register as an Importer/Exporter.
  • Apply for IEC: Navigate to the “IEC Profile Management” section and click on “Apply for IEC”.
  • Complete the Application: Fill in the required details, including PAN, bank account information, and firm details.
  • Make Payment: Pay the applicable fees online.
  • Receive IEC Certificate: The IEC certificate will be sent to your registered email address.

AD Code Registration:

  • Choose an Authorised Dealer Bank: Select a bank that is authorized by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
  • Submit Documents: Provide the necessary documents, including your IEC, PAN, bank account details, and any other information requested by the bank.
  • Approval: The bank will review your application and issue the AD code upon approval.
  • Register AD Code at each port: Once you have the AD code, you need to register it at each port where you plan to export or import goods.
