Iraq’s present flag, adopted in 2008, is intended to be an interim banner – used only until a permanent design is selected. As it currently appears, the flag is a horizontal tribar of red (at the top), white (in the middle), and black (at the bottom). The middle white bar is charged with the takbir “Allahu Akbar” (God is great) in Kufic script in its center.
